Fix Lightroom 3 causing crash of Wacom

April 21, 2011 - 1 minute read

For a long time now, since some time in 2009, Lightroom has caused my Wacom tablet to crash so that the pen and mouse no longer function. I spent a few hours on the phone researching the problem with Adobe and Wacom. We tried installing various old and new drivers, re-booting, etc but the problem persisted. Today I found a solution that is working.

I’m running an Intuos 3 on Win 7 64 bit. This crash happened nearly every time I worked in Adobe Lightroom. In the past I fixed the crash by re-booting the computer, here is a better way my friends. Get your wacom intuos 3 running again going into Control Panel, System and Security, Admin tools.

Double-click services. Then find and highlight TabletServiceWacom. Stop the service, then restart it. The tablet should work again.

I’m running an experiment to see if I can take this fix one step farther. Still in the Services panel, double-click on TabletServiceWacom. Select the Recovery tab, set first failure to Restart service, and you can do the same with second and subsequent failures. I don’t know if this works yet but my fingers are crossed.
